Golfing for Novices: Part Two

April 23rd, 2010

What Should You Keep in Your Golf Bag?

There are many golf bags available; some are designed for fashion, some for utility and some that combine both features. There are big bags, bigger bags and bags so big that they would keep everything I need for a long week-end vacation in one of the side pockets!

A basic, practical golf bag is one just large enough to hold your clubs (obviously), spare golf balls, tees, golf glove, pencils, keys, sunblock cream, ball markers, a ball retriever, an umbrella and a plastic raincoat.

You could also include other items that are handy when outdoors, such as tissues, a small first-aid kit or at least some plasters and some anti-insect spray.

A small pack of baby wipes comes in very handy; in your bag they get warmed by the heat, so when you get sweaty or a sand trap covers you with sand, a nice warm wipe can be very refreshing.

If you suffer from any allergies or illnesses, it is a wise precaution to carry antidotes with you. For example, if you are sensitive to bee stings then anti-hystamine or whatever you take if you are a diabetic. However, remember to replace drugs before their expiry date.

One item that doesn’t need to be in your golf bag is your cell phone. If you must carry it, turn off the ringer as a courtesy to other players. If you must use it, be aware of others who might be taking a swing or putting their ball. You have to be considerate!

If you have these items with you in your golf bag, you will be covered for most minor tribulations, like a bee sting, an ant bite, a blister or even a sudden downpour. If you know that you are well prepared, you will be able to relax that little bit more and enjoy your game that much more too.

About Nike Golf Shoes

April 16th, 2010

Nike golf shoes are one of the tools you can use to improve your game. If you have only played golf in casual shoes before, or if you’re just looking for a way to improve your general game, investing in a good pair of golf shoes can make a huge difference. Just like in other sports, the shoes you wear can seriously affect your performance.

As you have to have a smooth swing and be able to follow through on your swing in golf, all without losing control of the strength of your swing, your golf shoes can help or hinder you. Nike golf shoes are designed to help you balance, gripping the turf as much as necessary and letting you get full strength and control behind each swing.

As these golf shoes have special compartments in the heels, every step is easier to make. They offer the level of support your feet, legs and knees require in order to play golf very comfortably over long periods of time.

As golf very often involves a lot of walking, Nike golf shoes have been made like a blend of walking shoe and golf shoe. They cushion the joints of your legs and knees against the impact from each step you take, allowing you to concentrate your strength and effort on your game of golf, rather than on how you are going to get to the next hole or to wherever it is that your ball has landed.

When you decide to buy Nike golf shoes, there are several things that you should bear in mind. The first thing you should consider is your level of skill. Golf, like many other sports, has equipment that can be used by amateurs or advanced professionals alike, but it is better to differentiate between the skill levels.

In many cases, beginners pick Nike golf shoes made for professionals, but never end up getting the full potential of the shoe, as they are not sure how they can best be used.

While professionals definitely do get great use out of these Nike golf shoes, it is often better for novices to purchase entry level Nike golf shoes which would better suit their needs. The increase in power given to your stroke would often be lost on those who are beginners, as they do not yet possess the requisite skill to control the stroke as much as they would need to.

Therefore, it is better to buy Nike golf shoes that suit your skill level, as these shoes will have the comfort and functionality you require. You can purchase Nike golf shoes from a variety of sources. For those who want cheaper shoes and the same quality of professional shoes, you can buy last year’s models from Nike outlet centers.

If you want only top of the line golf shoes, you can purchase from online Nike stockists or through a number of online retail outlets (see below).

Golfing for Novices: Part One

April 15th, 2010

The popularity of the game of golf has increased tremendously over the past forty-five years, giving us great champions like Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods and world-renowned courses like Pinehurst, St. Andrews, Augusta National and the Blue Monster at Doral.

Why should playing golf have taken off like that? I think it has to be because by playing golf you are being active outdoors with friends or colleagues competing in a leisurely game that you can never perfect.

Your achievements are tallied on your scorecard for all time and the desire to improve your game can encourage you to play again and again.

Here is a very basic lesson in golf for the person who hasn’t a clue about the game.

The typical round of golf is played on a course of eighteen holes, each or which has its own ‘par’. Par is the total number of shots it should take a player to complete that hole, ie all the tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short shots onto the green) and puts into the hole.

This ‘par’ value is based on the length and difficulty of the hole in question. Pars range from three to six, so if you get the ball into the hole in four shots on a ‘par four’ hole, you made ‘par’. However, if you took three shots, it’s called a ‘birdie’ or five shots a ‘bogie’.

All the holes on a golf course will have at least one ‘hazard’ to make the game more challenging and therefore more interesting. These hazards are usually: sand traps, trees and bodies of water, which are set up in such a way as to be obstructive. A beginner at golf should seek out a course which has fewer and less obstructive hazards so it is easier to play.

Players keep their own score of the total number of shots taken for each hole. After the eighteenth hole, they add up their scores and the one with the lowest is the winner.

It is important for beginner golfers to not take themselves too seriously. It takes a long time to get good at this game; even though the professionals make it look so easy.

A good tip is to get the basics right from the start by taking a few lessons from the course ‘pro’, because then you will learn the correct posture and swing.

Golfing for Beginners: Part 3

April 15th, 2010

The term ‘the long game’ refers to your drives (shots off the tee) and fairway shots; that is every shot except the shots you make to actually get onto the green.

For the reason that each hole has a different difficulty level, a different par and different obstructions, saying that you should use your driver on every tee every time would be totally wrong.

But don’t worry about it. This is something that you will have to learn with experience as you learn the various types shot you need to make, which will vary according to the club, the placement of the ball and your own personal style of swing.

As a rule of thumb, the lower the number of the club, the longer and lower your ball will travel through the air. For example, a 4-iron will make the ball travel on a long and low trajectory and will most likely roll when it hits the ground, whereas a 9-iron will give the ball much more loft and it will go less distance both in the air and over the ground.

The professionals on television make it look so easy, don’t they? They consistently hit the ball long and straight and never miss-hit the ball making it dribble ten feet or completely miss the ball altogether, but you do not have to do that either, if you practice, practice, practice.

One of the most important parts of the game is the drive. If you spend a few hours at the driving range you will see quite a big improvement in your long-distance shots. Use the same club in this experiment to see what affect it has, if you move the ball backward or forward or in your stance. And, if you can, take a lesson or two from a pro, to learn the proper swing from the start.

Mastering the long game will help you get to the green in fewer strokes, keeping your score and frustration levels down. Remember that it takes a long time to learn consistency and also remember that you’re supposed to be having fun! So go and enjoy yourself.

Senior Golf Vacation Holidays

March 24th, 2010

If you are looking for senior golf vacation packages where you can get golf lessons, a friendly game of golf or watch a PGA Tour, you might look on the Internet to see where the best places would be. You could travel to Arizona, Hawaii, Bermuda or Myrtle Beach.

You could have some exciting rounds of golf when you reserve a senior golf package that includes accommodation, airfare and a couple of days of golf. You will not only enjoy your golf, but the many attractions in the area as well. Vacation packages are great and when they involve golf at a very prominent club, you will have an even better time.

Myrtle Beach has some of the most prestigious golf vacation packages with diverse activities built into each one. You can play the Big Cat and even have a lesson or two from the ex- Senior Golf Tour player Gary Cowan. Gary Cowan was the winner of two majors and had eight appearances in other majors.

You may prefer the Big Cat package, the Fanatic golfer package or the four rounds and three-night package. The latter is for the true golfer. Four days of golf and only three-nights in the hotel is what you get with this vacation package.

In Maui, you can play one of the courses designed by Robert Trent Jones; enjoy a day in the warm sun and experience a golf course like you have never experienced before. You can stay at the Kaanapali Beach hotel and take the short walk to the golf course.

The two courses are a senior golfer’s delight. The South Course has an executive style, but with little complexity whereas the North Course runs through the foothills and along the beach and is considered a challenging golf course. It is also home to the PGA Tour.

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, you might like to try the senior golf vacation package to Bermuda. With nine golf courses spread out on twenty-one acres of land, you will find that this is one of the most exceptional experiences of a lifetime. You can choose from fourteen hotels and resorts that offer senior golf vacation packages. With sea all around, you will feel the warm breeze and smell the ocean as you enjoy a great game of golf. Many vacation packages include at least one day of golf, but you can find holiday package deals with more days as well.

However, the story of senior golf vacation packages does not end there. You could enjoy a trip to Arizona where you can find some of the leading golfing schools. The golf courses in the area put on the PGA and the LPGA. The Scottsdale area is crammed with many senior friendly golf courses that will intrigue even the skilled golfer.

Not only do you have the game of golf, but some of the best leisure activity is on hand in the area as well. You can arrange a senior golf outing anywhere you can find a great package deal and professional lessons.

Ladies Golf Apparel and Fashion

March 5th, 2010

I was reading one of those ‘Golfing for Women’ magazines the other week and began wondering where the women live, who wear the golf attire modeled in women’s golfing magazines? I’ve never seen women, not even the professionals, who would dress in such expensive and outrageous clothing.

It’s so simple to spend tons of money kitting yourself out for the sport of golf. Think about hats, sunglasses, gloves, shirts, shorts, socks, windsheeters and shoes, and it is obvious that the costs add up very quickly, even if you do your shopping at cheap online sales. Then you have to factor in the cost of clubs, balls, bag, cart and fees and you have to play a round of golf really quite frequently to keep the “CPU” (cost per use) down to a tolerable level.

One half-page glossy advert showed a beautiful young ‘golfing lady’ in really tiny hot-pants (like that’s permitted on golfing greens!) that cost nearly $300, a golf shirt at almost $600, a jacket by Ralph Lauren at almost $200 and two-toned Utuser shoes costing $400 plus.

That comes to almost $1,500! I know that I could never hope to get the CPU on that outfit down to anywhere near a normal limit in my golfing lifetime! Don’t misunderstand me – I love clothes and I really love shoes, but could never afford, nor even want, golf shoes or pants that cost as much as a lot of people’s weekly wages.

OK, you need comfy golfing shoes that don’t look like an old pair of wooden clogs, but honestly, you will be able to find less expensive and yet still trendy golfing shoes.

I have bought a couple of very stylish golfing outfits, even though none of them are famous brand names. If I were to total up the cost of all of those articles of clothing, it would not add up to the cost of a Tse golf shirt. Personally, I would rather have a few trendy outfits than one that is priced way too much.

If I were to wear a $1,500 set of golfing attire to play golf in, I would just be too worried about getting it grubby or sweating in it to enjoy a proper game of golf.

What Golf Equipment Should I Buy?

January 28th, 2010

Buying golf equipment can be like throwing your money onto the fire, but armed with some fore-knowledge you can save yourself some time and money when you’re selecting golf clubs for yourself. As with most things in life, you can either spend a lot of money in one go or you can spend a little several times, until you get what you really need.

If you are just starting out and are not completely certain that you want to commit yourself to the addictive game of golf, you should either hire golf clubs at the clubhouse on the golf course, or buy a beginner’s set of golf clubs.

Purchasing a set of starter golf clubs allows you to become accustomed to them; enabling you to concentrate on your swing instead of wondering how this set of miss-matched golf clubs you just rented is going to pan out.

As you become better at golf, you should invest in a better set of clubs more fitted to you.

Generally, a set includes a driver, one or two fairway woods, numbers 4-9 irons, a wedge or two and a putter.

Once become more experienced and start thinking about new clubs, you may want to consider buying your driver as a separate item. Some players need a driver to give them more accuracy, others need more distance.

There are various sorts of golf ball available and the golf ball box will often have a chart on the back to help you select the right golf ball for your requirements. As you learn more about the game and get better at playing it, you should experiment with different balls which could help improve your accuracy and/or your distance.

Having the right golf equipment is an important aspect of the game, so take care and buy wisely!

Getting the Most from Golf Lessons

December 17th, 2009

It is never easy asking for help, but in golf, it is almost a must-do. More’s the pity, we often ask our friends and partners, whereas in fact, we should be taking a lesson or two with a professional, usually called the Club Pro.

We may possibly think that a Pro would criticize us too harshly, but in fact, they are honest, positive and usually very helpful.

Golf lessons at the local golf course aren’t as expensive as you probably think and they are worth it too, because your game will improve more rapidly and cause you less frustration, making the game much more enjoyable for you.

It is of utmost importance to be absolutely honest about your game. The Pro will enquire of you what you think you need to start with: driving, chipping, putting or whatever you feel you need assistance with.

Listen carefully and follow the Pro’s instructions. You may have doubts if the Pro changes your stance, your grip or your swing, but really, the Pro does know best.

Please don’t hesitate to ask the Pro golfer any questions you may have and don’t worry about whether your question or concern may sound stupid – they’ve heard it all before and will not make you feel like a fool for inquiring. If you don’t get it, tell the Pro that you do not get it. You should never walk away from a lesson with unposed questions.

For example, a strategy might be to concentrate on one thing during a lesson, or on several. You might start with a lesson on driving; get the right grip, the right stance, the right swing, the right follow-through in one lesson, and then practice it for a few weeks until you feel that you’ve got it right. Next time, you might want to work on your short game, or putting.

You’ve invested in the golfing equipment and it isn’t cheap, so it doesn’t make sense not to learn how to use it to it’s best advantage and improve your abilities, does it?

Modest Retirement Gifts For Golfers

December 16th, 2009

There is a commonly-held notion that golf is a pastime and sport of big shot entrepreneurs and businessmen. It also has the reputation of being an exclusive, elite sport that is not accessible to regular blue collared employees. However, this is not really the case as modernization and commercialization have brought this so called elite sport into the reach of the common worker.

This is because you don’t need to acquire sophisticated equipment to join in. Unlike big game fishing and polo which need a lot of resources – a boat or a horse respectively, golfers just need a set of golf clubs, which are affordable these days. With this in mind, retirement gifts for golfers and aspiring ones are more easily thought of.

Personalized retirement gifts to personalize golfing equipment is quite simple. You could easily make personalized gifts by embroidering such items as golf club pouches or caddy covers. These can be knitted, if you are into knitting or by any similar craft which may use other materials.

Another idea is to tap into the fashion aspect of golfing which means to focus on the things worn by a golfer. You may even set a new trend in golfing apparel using a lively imagination and an interesting clothing design for your retiree.

Common gifts. The most usual way of acquiring a retirement gift for golfers is to go to the closest sports shop and get your retiree something sold there. It may sound a little impersonal to give the retiree a commercially made gift, but then this may actually prove really useful, if the retiree is still a beginner golfer – you might want to get him a set of golf clubs since it is the basic requirement to be able to play golf.

Moreover, you may find some more accessories there that your retiree golfer still needs, but then perhaps you could also use your imagination to think about what things can be made to enhance the golfing equipment he may already have.

Commercially made golfing equipment is also a good idea, if you want to make your retiree feel good by giving him a famous set of clubs, making him look like a pro.

Gags and Jokes The fun part of choosing to give a joke present instead is the humour these items can create. It also adds to the lighter aspect of the golf-playing retiree’s party and his friends will be able to take part in with smiles, laughs and jokey comments too.

The joke present should be bought quite carefully as the joke present may represent a sensitive matter for the retiree, especially if he is still a beginner. Gag gift for golfers may be misunderstood and hinder their golfing progress if they are upset by the idea emphasized by the joke present you have given to them.

However, to veteran players who already know the game inside out, the gift of a good joke gift on their retirement day would be very funny as they would already see golfing not only as a way to relieve their stress and get some exercise but to actually just have a laugh as well.

It’s a good idea to view retirement presents for golfers as merely a easy way to make your golfing friend see the funny side of life after his career is over.

Good luck if you are going to or planning a Golfer’s Retirement Party, but if you want to get a better understanding of retirement, please go to our web site Retirement Planning. Grab a totally unique version of this article from the Uber Article Directory
